Frequently Asked Questions About Baby Carriers and BabywearingWhat is babywearing? TOP
Babywearing is the practice of carrying your baby close to you in a soft carrier. Parents around the world have been using cloth to carry their children for generations upon generations. However, western cultures have only recently begun to recognize the practical as well as psychological and emotional benefits of babywearing. Why take a babywearing class? Don’t directions come with each carrier? TOP
The number ONE reason most people say don’t wear their baby more is that “it didn’t work for me/my baby.” It’s our assertion that any baby who likes to be held will love being worn - it's just a matter of finding the carrier that is right for you/your baby.
Babywearing used to be an art handed down generation to generation. Since many of our mothers didn’t know about babywearing, a babywearing class fills that void. A class will help you learn how to effectively use your carrier AND help you choose carriers that are suit your needs. Is my baby/child too young/little or too old/heavy for babywearing? TOP
As long as you are using your arms to carry your child, you can start babywearing. This goes for premature infants on up to toddlers and beyond.
Most carriers support weight up to 35-40 lbs, although people report carrying even heavier children and sometimes adults
It is our experience that most children stop wanting to be worn much long before you actually surpass any recommended weight limits. However, we know 5year olds who still occasionally want to be cuddled in a sling, or carried on longer walks when their legs get tired! Can I carry my baby too much? TOP
Not in our opinion! Many people worry that carrying or holding your baby or toddler too much will inhibit the child’s development of independence or even prevent her from learning to walk. If this were the case, babies all over the world--many of whom are carried for much of their entire first year--would never learn to crawl, walk, jump or run! But these babies do learn to do these things--and your baby will, too.
In our experience, children are naturally inclined to explore their world - when they are ready. Your child will let you know when s/he is ready; most even insist on it. Can I breastfeed in a baby carrier? TOP
Absolutely. This is one of the greatest benefits to babywearing for many moms. With a little practice, you can breastfeed in any carrier that can be worn on your front or hip. A pouch, ring sling or wrap is best for breastfeeding but once baby has head control, s/he can breastfeed in other carriers as well.

Your baby spent 9 months in an even more confined space than your carrier. Babies actually feel comfortable and secure being confined when they are newly born, this is one of the reasons swaddling works so well.
Most babies who are uncomfortable will communicate their distress. If your baby seems uncomfortable, by all means modify her position in the carrier.

Babywearing is an art, and it takes time and practice to use any carrier, it is not something that necessarily clicks for you right away (although it may!) Some babies also need to get used to being carried in a cloth carrier.
