Holding Positions and Carrier Versatility
Hands down, the most versatile carrier is a long, woven
wrap. These can be tied
in a wide variety of ways and every holding position imaginable.
Since wraps aren't for every one, here are my recommendations
for the basic holding positions:
Front carries
- Cradle carry: Ring slings, pouches, wraps
- Upright, facing in: All carriers are great
for this carry. The ERGO and MyPouch can only be used after baby has good
head control.
- Forward facing carry: ring
slings, mei tais (except for My Pouch) or the Pikkolo
Back Carries
- Standard back carry: structured carriers, wraps
and Mei Tais
- High Back Carry: Mei Tais and wraps
Hip carries: ring
slings, pouches or the Ball Baby Overall mei tai.
- While other mei tais and structured carriers can
be used ini the hip carry, I do not find them as comfortable
for hip carries.
- Wraps also work for hip carry, but unless you buy a rebozo length wrap,
which functions like a ring sling, there is a lot of extra fabric
in this carry.
