Our Favorite Hiking Baby Carriers

Our favorite hiking baby carriers are soft-structured buckle carriers.  While big frame backpacks have their place (especially for serious hikers and families planning multi-day hike), here at CMA we love soft pack carriers for day hiking.

Benefits of soft-pack carriers for hiking:

  • usable for hiking with infants (unlike framed packs)
  • lower center of gravity makes carrier feel less top heavey and more balanced because baby is closer to your body
  • soft buckle carriers are (usually) less expensive than framed packs
  • soft carriers are more versatile – they make great hiking carriers but are also great for around the house or anytime!

While most babywearers prefer Soft Sturctured Carriers (aka SSC aka buckle carriers), we also love meh dai and onbuhimo carriers for hiking.  These carriers have an even more minimalist and natural feel vs. buckle carriers (which have thick padded waistbands) and they can be a bit cooler as well, due to having less fabric.

We’ve collected our favorite hiking baby carriers here!

You’ll also find a few of our best hiking accessories, including Babylegs, weather covers and the Boba Babywearing hoodie.
