My Babywearing Story: Maria

In celebration of International Babywearing Week, we are sharing “babywearing stories” from the CMA Babywearing Team.  This is Maria’s story:

“From looking at these pictures, I don’t think you’d realize that a lot of what I do with my children would not be possible without babywearing.

I have Lupus and I get chronic pain in my joints that makes it very difficult for me to hold my littles for long periods of time in my arms. Even with a stroller, I’m leaning forward and having to grasp the handle, which makes it hard on my back and my finger joints.

Babywearing allows for my back to get some much-needed support and distribute their weight evenly for my body to be able to handle it.

I love being able to have my babies be so close to me and still give me the freedom to be able to do things on my own with them while I’m not around family and friends.

For me, babywearing means I can be independent with my children and not have to rely on someone’s help when doing things with them as simple as just playing. It helps me hold them when they need security or comfort. It helps me soothe them when they are tired or scared. It gives me the opportunity to be the mom I want to be with my babies and not be held back by my disease.

Babywearing has helped me be a #lupuswarrior and I’m thankful for it every day. And when my children ask for their “uppies”, I know that it means just as much to them as it does to me.”
