The CMA Babywearing Team Reviews: mini review of the Beco Toddler

Today’s mini review is written by CMA Team member Ryan Warner.

The Beco Toddler is one comfortable carrier – it’s my and the mini me’s go to carrier. This is definitely a carrier I recommend to other toddler dads.

The added features of the Beco versus other carriers make it a winner for us.  The padding on the shoulder straps is long enough that even with broad shoulders, I’m not getting pinched by webbing anywhere, but it’s also not bulky. I normally have to have PFA’s all the way out on carriers; with the Beco, I am able to utilize them to achieve better fit for kiddo rather than squeezing out more padding length for me. My wife likes the Beco as well, and also finds it comfortable. Her only complaint is it seems a bit wide and she has to cinch in the chest clip a lot with our small toddler.

My one critique is that I do have to relocate the chest clip (which isn’t hard, it slips off and back on easily) to a lower position since my shoulders are larger. I’m 6ft, and wear a L shirt, but I’m shaped like Jonny Bravo (upside down triangle). For my wife, who is shorter and plus size the chest clip in the standard position is fine.

My toddler seems to enjoy the Beco, she picked out a Sloth print and likes the pattern along with the brushed canvas (which is softer out of the bag than other canvas carriers we own). Jojo is 2.5, 25lbs and 34.5″, she just barely fits in this carrier. It’s a generous Toddler size carrier that fits both Jojo and her older brother, Tripp (5yo, 40lbs and 39″)

The Beco Toddler is fairly easy to adjust to achieve a comfortable fit, with the exception of the chest clip issue I mentioned above. For our family that makes sharing this carrier a little harder if we are both back carrying. However, if it goes from a back carry with me to a front carry with my wife it works out well. We can’t share a Tula without having to change literally everything lol.

I was pleasantly surprised with the added details on the Beco: he pouch that snaps on and off, removable and appropriately sized hood, and the carry bag are nice touches.

This carrier is the one I reach for daily, it’s comfortable, easy to use and fits both me and my toddler well. It’s very well made, floppy out of the bag and with the carry bag, I don’t have to worry about tossing in the back of the car. We’ve taken it shopping, to school pick ups, out for walks and camping. It’s pretty much an all around guy friendly, comfy carrier.

Editor’s Note: the limited edition Toddlers (like the Sloth that Ryan has) do come with a carry pouch, but standard colorways do not.
