CMA Mini Reviews: the Moby Ring Sling

This mini review of the Moby Ring Sling was written by CMA Team member Hannah.  Hannah is wearing the Moby in Silver Streak.

Today’s review is of the Moby Ring Sling. The Moby Ring sling is a new ring sling that packs a serious punch, especially considering the price! by Hannah

First Impressions: Straight out of the box the sling felt soft and moldable, it didn’t have a “budget carrier” feel, but at just $50 the MOBY ring sling truly is in the budget-friendly category. It’s made with Oeko-Tex® Standard 100 certified 100% cotton woven fabric, which makes me feel like MOBY went the extra step to source quality materials. The woven cotton has more of wrap conversion feel that I haven’t seen from ring slings at this price point in the past. I also really love the matte black rings, I feel it makes for a more modern and stylish look.

Uppies: My son Jude, is 2 years old, but petite, he’s 26lbs and 34” and can wear both 18/24 and 2T clothing. I am a plus sized mom, I’m 5’8 and currently range from size 16-18 with a large chest and overall wide frame. Finding ring slings that fit both myself and a toddler is a challenge, finding a ring sling that fits myself and a toddler while still having tail left over is rare. The MOBY ring sling fits like a dream. I am able to carry my son on my front, hip or back and have a nice size tail. The kind that makes you feel glamorous even in sweat pants and a 3 day old mom bun. The single layer fabric felt breathable, yet supportive enough for a toddler, it molded right to our bodies and was easy to adjust, even brand new. The guided rails are a great added feature for caregivers still learning how to adjust a ring sling.

Before and After Washing: Before washing the MOBY sling was roughly 85” it was soft but didn’t have a completely broken in feel. After washing and air drying the sling did lose about 4” but is still long enough for me to comfortably wear in. After drying I used a warm iron and the sling felt even softer.

Comparisons: BECO also released a budget-friendly ring sling this year, I personally would choose the MOBY sling over the BECO for the longer length and the feel of the fabric. The BECO ring sling may be a better fit for petite caregivers who don’t want to deal with the excess tail.

Pros:

  • ONLY $50!!!
  • Cotton is easy to care for, and no fuss.
  • Plus size friendly.
  • Breathable yet supportive.
  • Neutral patterns
  • Can easily be shared by different caregivers with different body types.
  • Easily stored in a diaper bag
  • Neutral colors and patterns

Cons:

  • Limited patterns.
  • May be too much fabric for petite wearers.
  • Lost length with first wash.

Overall I’m really impressed with this ring sling, the quality for the price is above and beyond. MOBY has really stepped up the game and made great quality and stylish ring slings affordable and attainable for more caregivers.
