Your Holiday Coping Toolkit: Don’t forget the baby carrier!

Babywearing at holiday timeYep, the holidays are upon us, and that means most of us will find ourselves without enough hands or time to get it all done.   Fortunately, a baby carrier is a great way to get maximum use from the two you do have – you can hold your child close to you while keeping your hands free!

Here’s some suggestions from my own experience of ways you can use baby carriers to get you through the season:

* A baby carrier is great for getting you through holiday shopping quickly and easily.  It’s much easier to navigate crazy crowds with your baby in a carrier vs. in a stroller.

* Trim the tree with your baby in a pouch!

* Wear baby on your back while you clean the house before guests, or do dishes after

* Keep baby in a hip carrier during festivities – sometimes the holiday revelry can be a bit  much for small ears, and being in a cuddly pouch or ring sling where they can hide their little heads is soothing

* Wear baby in a back carry when you’re decorating cookies with your older child

* Bring a carrier along for holiday events like caroling, going to the pumpkin patch or cutting down your tree

* And definitely, definitely bring a carrier if you are going on an airplane!  They are invaluable for getting in and out of the airport and even for being on the plane (if you have a baby who gets fussy when flying).
